Cosmetology senior students are wrapping up hair color theory along with hair color applications. Each student is issued a manikin with four different color quadrants ranging in colors from gray to dark brown. Students are given a desired outcome for each quadrant. They must try to formulate to achieve the correct result. For example: Let's change the 80% gray quadrant to medium ash brown, or make a color change on the warm blonde quadrant to a deep ruby brown. What must we do to give dimension to the darkest quadrant? All questions that require our students to consider when choosing the pigment bases, the peroxide/developer strength, and do we use permanent color, semi or demi permanent? Once our new Stylists change all quadrants to the desired new colors, they must then make the entire head one color. This is the real challenge! Color correction can be difficult. They have learned what happens to the integrity of hair that is aggressively lightened from darker shades. How to cancel warm and cool shades. They have now achieved a basic knowledge of color formulation and application. Foil weaving techniques are being perfected and students have performed beautiful highlights on our salon clients. Level 1 juniors start to learn haircutting next week. They will be refreshed on geometry, learning the 45 and 90 degree haircuts. These cutting angles create the "stacked bob" and layered haircuts. Students will learn to combine these angles to achieve the photo look that a client brings in, hoping the outcome will be that perfect color and cut. We are teaching a great group of students this year! Interest is high and that makes outcomes amazing! Kenzie Thomas of Morris High School changes
her gray quadrant to medium ash brown, our first color assignment.
